Space Tourism

Make your reservations now. The space tourism industry is officially open for business, and tickets are going for a mere $20 million for a one-week stay in space. Despite reluctance from NASA, Russia made American businessman Dennis Tito the world's first space tourist. Tito flew into space aboard a Russian Soyuz rocket that arrived at the International Space Station on April 30, 2001. The second space tourist, South African businessman Mark Shuttleworth, took off aboard the Russian Soyuz on April 25, 2002, also bound for the ISS. Greg Olsen, an American businessman, became tourist number three to the ISS on October 1, 2005.
If you've ever dreamed of going to space and doing what only a few hundred people have done, then read on. In this article, you'll learn about the spacecraft being designed as destinations for space tourists, and how you may one day have a chance to cruise through the solar system.

  1. I would not pay tons of money to go into space, but I would like to go sometime. I wouldn't say I dream of being a space tourist but would like to go into space at least once.

  2. I don't know how much I would be willing to pay to go to space. Yes I do dream of becoming a space tourist but I don't think I would get on a tour until I knew it was safe.

  3. I have never had any interest in traveling to space, therefore I would not be willing to spend the amount of money required to go to space. Also, the first few years of space travel like this will be filled with many problems, just because it is new. These problems could be life threatening due to the nature of space travel.

  8. I wouldn't spend 20 million for the risk of dying. I wouldn't go because of all the dangers and all the risk that might take place. And I don't have much interest in going into outer space just to many dangers

  11. Based on my research, In mexico from a non-professional, it would cost about $10,000 to go to space, this might be better than 20 million dollars, but I'm sure it is quite risky. Either way I believe that the risk to money ratio in anyway is not so great. I would not go to space.

  12. There is no way that I would pay to go to outer space regardless. If I were to go to space, I would only expect it to be a tad bit more than a regular vacation. It's just like riding in an airplane, it's just a different destination. I really don't think I'd ever want to be a space tourists. Why would I risk my life and lots of money to go to outer space, when Florida, Greece or Mexico sound much better, more relaxing and has half the risk.

  15. I would like to go into space but I do not trust the equipment and would be to afraid of an explosion. I also do not have the "mere $20 million for a one-week stay in space."

  16. I think it would be really cool to go to space but im terrified of heights and its too dangerous so i will pass. Plus its a heck of a lot of money and i dont got that kinda dough

  17. I think I would enjoy traveling to outer space but I would want to have no doubt in my mind that it was 100% safe. I also can't see it being worth 20 million dollars, so the price would need to be greatly decreased.

  18. I don't want to go into space. 1: I don't have $20 million. If I did, I would spend it on something more useful. 2: There are too many risk factors in going into space.

  21. Although it would be a cool experience I don't think it's worth the money because of the high risk of death. I think that the millions of dollars they are putting towards space tourism may be a waste

  22. I would not want to go. The risk outweighs the reward. Once you're lost at space it takes a lot of time, money, and resources to rescue you. The chances of your survival are slim to none.

  23. I'd have to say I'd pay roughly $25 because I really have no interest in going to space. I'm sure going to space would be pretty cool and all but I really don't think that going to space is worth risking my life.

  24. I think it would be cool to go to outer space but its not something i really dream about dong. I wouldn't be willing to pay 20 million dollars, but maybe about $1000 at the most. Along with the equipment will have to be tested many times before i trust it and would be willing to go to space with it.

  25. I would love to travel to I think that it would be cool and I don't mind the risks that are involved but I can't see paying 20 million dollars I think the price should be dramatically lowered.

  26. I think I would love to go up to space, but based on movies I have seen when they do training they go into a spinning wheel and I think the travel to space would be hard to handle and I would be dizzy. After reading the article, I think the activities they have planned such as space walks would be cool, but I want to know if there will be better food than just space food... because that won't fly with me.

  27. If money was not an issue I would gladly go into space, because when in your life will you have the opportunity to leave this planet. Despite the risks and such, it is still a trip to space. 20 million dollars is no more than pocket change for some and I completely understand why someone would do such a thing.

  28. I don't think that I would participate in space tourism, simply because I think that there are better ways that one could spend a "mere 20 million dollars", such as charities, maybe. And, as the article stated, space travel "has been designed for conducting research, not entertainment".
