War on Christmas

  1. Yes, you can give and receive gifts during the holidays without attaching any religious significance. Christmas really has become accepted as a secular holiday, even the White House, a government building, has Christmas decorations. Gift giving is only in the spirit of giving and has become just something you do during the holidays. They should let kids know the religious background of holidays, and let them celebrate it how they would want it to be celebrated. I'm pretty sure people like to give and receive gifts. -Trenton

  2. YES you can really give and receive holiday gifts without attaching some religious significance, has anyone came to you with a present and hey here is this present from god... I doubt it. receiving a gift is usually showing that the person has care for you and doesn't tie with god or a religion. How should modern families navigate this?... My family will keep doing what we have been doing and I suggest you do whatever it is you do during this holiday just don't discriminate anyone for what they celebrate, its their right

  3. The article basically talks about how we can incorporate religion into holidays and how we can try to not do it. One person celebrates both, even though they're not very religious, just due to the act. The mostly capitalize on the gift giving. While the other celebrates the Jewish holiday and associates religion in it. I think that there isn't a particular war on Christmas. I think that people get offended because the majority of us assume that we're all Christians. I don't think that people should be offended when they say Merry Christmas or anything else. They should just correct them. My family doesn't associate religion with the holiday. We just give the gifts, eat the food and carry on. Holidays aren't a big part of our life anyway.

  4. Yes you can celebrate give gifts without including God if you'd want to do that. You can show appreciation for one another no matter what you believe in. Modern families can continue to celebrate the way they have been. This time of year is different for everyone and can be celebrated or not by all people.

  5. People need to understand that religions can coexist, I was born into a household that practices both Christianity and Judaism. My mother was born into a Jewish household and my father a Catholic household. We understand that people have a difference of opinion and we are not one to judge another for their religious preference. The whole world needs to grasp this concept. I celebrate Christmas on Christmas and I celebrate Hanukkah on Hanukkah, I say merry Christmas on Christmas and happy Hanukkah on Hanukkah, one does not need to trump the other.

  6. I think that you can celebrate and give gifts without including God, in fact many people do that today. Take Santa Clause for example lots of people celebrate the presents that "Santa" brings and don't acknowledge Jesus at all. I think modern families have the choice of whether or not they want to do it, otherwise they can just celebrate the gift of each other, and the gift of family. I personally get more out of christmas by giving thanks to Jesus for all the things I have to celebrate, and celebrating him/his birth and all he has done for me, but if others don't thats their choice, they can celebrate the way they want.... with a spaghetti monster or not.

  7. I think that you can celebrate Christmas without bringing religion into it because gifts are an act of kindness and friendship and you do not have to have religion to display these things. I think that if modern families would like to bring religion into it they absolutely should, as is their right granted to them by the first amendment. I think that if families would not like to bring religion into, that is also their right. I think at the end of the day everyone should just have a nice and enjoy things as they are and wish them to be. :) -JOHN GROOM

  8. I think that it is possible to celebrate Christmas without including the religious aspect of the holiday, because it is so embedded into our culture, and the act of kindness and gift giving does not need to include religion. Christmas is also about selflessness and coming together. I think that modern families do have the choice on whether or not they want to bring religion into the holidays, because freedom of religion grants them the right to do so, because culturally there is more to Christmas than just religion.
